Sensory integration and processing...
...play a crucial role in how we focus, move, regulate emotions, and engage in daily life. When sensory processing does not work as expected, individuals may experience sensory sensitivities, difficulties with movement, or challenges in managing their emotions and behaviours. By understanding how sensory integration and processing works, we can better support individuals, adapting environments, activities and our approach to meet their sensory needs and improve their overall participation and well-being.

Why This Course?
If you're a health or care professional, you've likely worked with people who struggle with everyday activities — not because of a lack of motivation or ability, but because the task or environment doesn't match their sensory needs. This course helps you recognise those hidden sensory barriers — and make small, powerful changes that improve participation, comfort, and well-being.

Who's It For?
This course is suitable for professionals working in healthcare, community services, and other environments where sensory needs may impact participation and wellbeing. - Anyone working in health, education, or community settings - Occupational therapists and OT Assistants - Nurses - Speech and language therapists - Social workers - Support workers - Social prescribers - Psychologists - Physiotherapists - and more
What You'll Learn
By the end of this course, you will be able to: Recognise sensory preferences in individuals and understand how these can influence comfort, engagement, and behaviour across different environments. Identify sensory barriers in tasks or settings that may hinder participation, and apply practical, sensory-informed strategies to reduce or remove these barriers. Advocate for sensory inclusion and actively contribute to creating more welcoming and accessible schools, workplaces, public spaces, and services for people with sensory processing differences. Apply the Person-Environment-Occupation (PEO) model to enhance your everyday practice and support more inclusive approaches. Use specialist tools such as the SIE Sensory Insight Questionnaire, SIE Observation Crib Sheet, and SIE Environmental Audit Tool to guide assessment and intervention. Make effective adaptations that support self-regulation, participation, and inclusion for individuals with sensory needs. Explore sensory processing across the lifespan, considering the impact of different environments and life stages on sensory experience. Champion sensory-inclusive practices within your service, team, or organisation.

Become a Sensory Inclusion Facilitator
When you complete the course and pass the short online assessment, you’ll become a Certified Sensory Inclusion Facilitator — a new role created for professionals like you.
This certification demonstrates your ability to:
Recognise sensory processing differences Understand their impact on daily life Identify appropriate assessment tools and intervention approaches relevant to your professional setting, focusing on principles of the PEO model Adapt tasks, environments, and your approach Promote comfort, regulation, and participation Please Note: The Sensory Inclusion Facilitator Certificate does not provide the skills or authorisation to carry out formal assessments of an individual’s sensory system. It does not qualify participants to diagnose sensory processing difficulties or to plan and deliver clinical sensory integration therapy. These activities are the responsibility of appropriately qualified healthcare professionals, such as occupational therapists with postgraduate training in sensory integration. In summary: This certificate offers a practical and accessible introduction to sensory processing, empowering participants to begin embedding sensory-inclusive approaches in everyday settings. While it is not a clinical qualification, it represents a valuable step for those who want to support individuals with sensory differences in a respectful, informed, and inclusive way.
