Overview

Dr. Schoen will discuss the most current and relevant information supporting the existence of SPD as a stand-alone condition and as a domain of many co-occurring conditions. The talk will provide evidence that links sensory integrative dysfunction to issues in occupational performance and participation. Dr. Schoen will discuss the most current evidence of treatment effectiveness and the evidenced-based tools that can be used for collecting assessment information, participation outcomes and outcome effectiveness.

Lecturer

Ph.D, OTR/L, FAOTA Dr Sarah A Schoen

Dr Sarah Schoen is an occupational therapist with 40 years of clinical experience, a doctorate in occupational therapy, and a Fellowship of the American Occupational Therapy Association. She is an Associate Professor at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions and serves as Associate Editor for the American Journal of Occupational Therapy, with over 70 published manuscripts to her name. Dr Schoen is co-author of the Sensory Processing 3-Dimensions Scale and is widely recognised for her research, educational programmes, and clinical expertise in sensory integration. Her awards include the AOTA Recognition of Achievement Award (1997), the Virginia Scardina Award of Excellence (2011), the A. Jean Ayres Award (2022), and most recently the Outstanding Mentor Award (2025).
