My Path Into Sensory Integration
After graduating as an Occupational Therapist in 2005, I dedicated the majority of my career to children's services. The journey into sensory integration unfolded for me in 2010 while working in Vietnam. There, I collaborated with various organisations, including special schools, parent groups, hospitals, and NGOs, focusing on assisting Autistic youth. Over two years, I trained and established services tailored to address the sensory needs of Autistic students. This experience fuelled my determination to pursue formal training upon returning to the UK. Upon returning, I completed further training to become an Advanced Sensory Integration Practitioner, joining the SIE eMentor team in 2018.
How I Use SI In My Practice
After 18 years of working and managing Occupational Therapy Services in the NHS, I transitioned into the role of Programme Facilitator at SIE in October 2023. I now use my expertise in sensory integration to support, develop, and oversee SIE projects, including initiatives such as Sensory Inclusive Schools and the Lifelong Learning Programme.
Why I Am Committed to Supporting Others to Study SI
Each of us possesses a unique sensory profile that shapes how we perceive and engage with the world. These profiles define our individuality. Yet, when others fail to grasp our sensory intricacies, we encounter barriers to participation and integration within our environments. I am deeply committed to empowering others to cultivate their understanding of sensory-informed practices and ASI intervention skills. Through this, we can collectively work towards dismantling barriers to participation for all members of society. My goal is to equip professionals with the confidence and expertise to champion sensory awareness and establish clinical services that enhance people's quality of life. Employing a sensory integration-informed approach holds transformative potential in achieving this objective.
