Children and parents colouring. Title reads A Gift to Families: SIE Marks 30th Birthday with Free Sensory Support Service for Parents and Carers

In celebration of three decades of advancing sensory integration and processing training, support and awareness, Sensory Integration Education is making its Sensory Help Now service for parents and carers completely free, with immediate effect.

Sensory Help Now Service Made Free as a Gift to Families

This landmark move means that families and carers of children with sensory integration and processing difficulties can now freely access advice and information from experienced Sensory Integration Practitioners - all of whom are either qualified Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, or Speech and Language Therapists. Parents and carers can bring their questions and concerns to the Sensory Help Now Forum and receive a response from an SI Practitioner within three working days. They’ll also learn how to find and access therapists qualified in sensory integration near to them, as appropriate.

Families can freely access bite-sized videos to learn more about what sensory processing differences look like and how to put into practice sensory strategies at home to help with sensory issues around managing emotions, eating, dressing, hygiene and sleep. The Our Sensory Family newsletter keeps parents and carers up to date on developments and resources that can help them best support their children’s sensory health.

Families Can Access Reliable Free Advice and Resources

We understand the frustration of parents and carers facing long waiting lists to access therapists qualified to help with their child's sensory issues and wondering if information on the internet is credible. Sensory Help Now offers parents a way to get their questions rapidly answered by a qualified professional whilst they seek more tailored, in-person support.

Sensory Integration Education Turns 30

Sensory Integration Education (SIE) was formed in 1994 - originally as The SI Network (UK & Ireland) - when four regional organisations merged. It was created with a not-for-profit educational structure, which it retains to this day.

“At SIE, we understand the importance of having a supportive community and reliable resources. That's why, in celebration of our 30th birthday, we are ensuring that the Sensory Help Now service is accessible to all families, completely free of charge. This initiative embodies our vision to change the lives of people with sensory processing and integration differences,” said Rosalind Rogers, Chair of Sensory Integration Education.

SIE will be announcing further new initiatives this year to celebrate its 30th birthday, culminating in a special feature at the 2024 Sensory Integration Education Annual Conference in September.

Empower Families: Share Sensory Help Now

SIE’s birthday wish is that you share the Sensory Help Now website with your community so as many families as possible can benefit from a greater understanding of how to support their children’s sensory needs: www.sensoryhelpnow.org.

Note to SI Practitioners:

The Sensory Help Now service does not replace SI Therapy but is an initial step towards learning more about managing the impact that sensory integration and processing differences can have on daily life.  Where appropriate, visitors are signposted to seek individual consultation with an SI-qualified therapist. If you are an SI Practitioner or Advanced Practitioner and would like to add or update details of your service on our Find a Local Therapist database, please drop us a line at [email protected].
