For many professionals, postgraduate study happens alongside demanding roles and busy working lives. Over the years, we have listened carefully to our students and graduates about what helps learning feel manageable, motivating, and meaningful.

One message has been consistent: people learn best when the journey is well structured, thoughtfully paced, and properly supported.

That insight has shaped the postgraduate sensory integration pathway we are offering from 2026.

A pathway designed for real working lives

Our postgraduate programme brings together everything we have learned over 30 years of delivering sensory integration education. It offers a clear and supported route from your first module through to applying sensory integration principles safely and effectively in your day-to-day work and in the support you provide to others.

The programme follows a carefully considered learning sequence, bringing together insight, theory, and application at points where they can be most effectively absorbed. Ongoing support helps learners connect new understanding to their daily work, strengthening confidence and clarity in how sensory integration principles inform their practice.

Online course content is complemented by live group sessions and workshops, creating space for reflection, discussion, and shared learning. Alongside this, eMentors provide support throughout, helping learners navigate complexity, deepen their reasoning, and feel supported as their understanding develops.

Grounded in evidence, focused on meaningful application

The pathway remains firmly grounded in Ayres Sensory Integration (ASI), a well-established, evidence-based framework with a strong emphasis on therapeutic relationships, adaptive responses, and meaningful participation.

Learners develop a robust understanding of sensory processing and how it influences regulation, engagement, and behaviour across the lifespan. Examples of practical application to your work are provided throughout the programme. The focus is on critical thinking, sound hypothesis formation, and planning individualised support that is responsive to the person and their context.

Students can apply their learning across a wide range of settings, including education, health, community services, mental health, and social care. What matters most is having opportunities to work with and support individuals, reflecting on how sensory integration principles can be applied ethically and effectively in diverse environments.

Broadening access while maintaining high standards

An important development within the pathway has been the expansion of entry criteria to include a wider range of registered health and social care professionals. Alongside occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and speech and language therapists, we now welcome professionals such as psychologists, nurses, and social workers. (You can find out more about the eligibility criteria here.)

These professionals bring strong foundations in understanding development, behaviour, participation, and wellbeing. Their perspectives enrich learning and strengthen multidisciplinary thinking, while maintaining a shared commitment to safe and responsible practice.

Accredited, supported, and connected

All our postgraduate courses are accredited by Sheffield Hallam University. From day one, students gain access to the university’s library and a full range of student support services, providing a strong foundation for academic success alongside practical learning.

Over 2,000 sensory integration practitioners have qualified with SIE, applying their learning in schools, healthcare, social care, and community services. With more than 30 years of experience delivering postgraduate education, we combine expertise, evidence, and practical insight to support learners every step of the way.

Looking ahead to 2026

We are immensely proud of the impact our students and graduates continue to make. They are applying sensory integration-informed approaches across diverse contexts, supporting people to engage more fully in everyday life, and bringing a sensory lens to complex situations.

As we look ahead to 2026, this postgraduate pathway represents a considered evolution, shaped by experience, evidence, and the realities of professional practice. It reflects our ongoing commitment to guiding learners towards safe, effective, and confident sensory integration practice that is both professionally fulfilling and genuinely transformative for the people they support.

Whether you are joining Sensory Integration Education for the first time or continuing your journey with us, we hope this pathway opens up new ways of thinking, deepens your skills, and supports you in making a lasting impact through sensory integration-informed practice.
